Preheat the oven
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare the filling
In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Cook for 5–7 minutes until apples are slightly softened. If the filling seems too watery, sprinkle in 1 tablespoon flour and stir until thickened. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
Prepare puff pastry
Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (about 10×12 inches).
Add filling
Place the apple mixture in the center of the puff pastry, leaving about 2 inches of pastry on each side.
Create the braid
Make diagonal cuts (about 1 inch wide) along the long edges of the pastry, forming strips. Fold the strips over the filling alternately from each side to create a braid pattern, tucking the ends underneath.
Apply egg wash
Brush the top of the braid with the beaten egg to give it a golden finish.
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
Cool and serve
Let the braid cool for 5–10 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
