Instructions & Methods
Step 1: Activate the Yeast
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir to dissolve.
- Sprinkle yeast over the milk mixture and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Pro Tip: If the mixture doesn’t foam, your yeast might be dead. Always check the expiration date.
Step 2: Mix the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
Step 3: Knead the Dough
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Method for Lovers: If you love kneading by hand, fold and push rhythmically; if you prefer ease, a stand mixer with a dough hook works perfectly.
Step 4: First Rise
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth.
- Let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Step 5: Shape the Loaf
- Punch down the dough gently.
- Shape it into a loaf by rolling it into a tight cylinder.
- Place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
Step 6: Second Rise
- Cover the loaf with a cloth and let rise for 30–45 minutes until it puffs up nicely above the pan.
Step 7: Bake
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brush the top lightly with melted butter (optional).
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Step 8: Cool & Enjoy
- Remove from pan and let cool on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes.
- Slice and serve warm, or wrap and gift—it’s irresistible.
